Here I will explain to you the thought process of my video with Vancouver artist Surya Devi

Surya Devi "Win this War" Music Video

This video was filmed with Surya Devi in Vancouver, Canada in 2022. The goal of this video was to showcase the different ways us humans can win against war. How to show the different way to express ourselves to show the love and body expression can conquer war.

Project Overview

The great thing about Vancouver, Canada is it gave us a wealth of options with the scenery for the video. There are so many events we could go to so we could record the needed footage with it being a no-budget video. The most important part were the elements like dancers to fill out the video, which Surya knew. Also creating a simple storyboard that was easy to execute to get her vision and mood across. The goal was for the viewers to have a positive feeling of love after watching the video.

Project Execution

We had our locations and schedule established, with camera angles planned in advance to maximize each scene’s potential. We were aware of when to use a drone for specific locations. Some shots were spontaneous, influenced by the surroundings and what we encountered nearby. We efficiently managed our time each day to capture the necessary footage, while also considering how long we would need with the dancers and supporting roles.

What were the key elements needed to complement the performance scenes in the video?

Drone shots of the Vancouver area displaying the beauty of this planet.
Gathering new footage from around the world of people protesting against their governments.
Having the right actors and dancers to effectively convey the emotions of bodily expression.
Selecting the right events to film that showcase people demonstrating unity and compassion for one another.
